Friday will be the Amateur Competition and Saturday the Pros will take over. This sculpture competition will have 10 teams, (each consisting of 4 people) selecting scrap metal, designing, and fabricating a finished sculpture in just 8 hours. From scrap pile to sculpture in just 8 hours! It all happens at the Bellingham Technical College. There will be individual and team prizes for contest winners, as well as an opportunity to exhibit on BTCs campus. All sculptures will be available at a public auction, with the proceeds benefiting the BTC Welding Student Scholarship Fund, the Welding Rodeo, and participating artists. Silent auction for amateur sculptures closes at 5 p.m. Friday. Live auction for professional sculptures starts at 5:15 p.m. Saturday. As part of the event, which is a fundraiser for the welding program, three student groups will be raising money through food sales. One is the ethnic bake sale, started five years ago to help fund scholarships for students in the adult basic education and English-as-a-Second-Language programs. The years theme is the Human Form. The Junior Ski to Sea Parade is at 6PM tonight downtown and the Junior Ski to Sea Race is at Lake Padden tomorrow from 8 AM 3PM See other pages in 365 Things to do in Bellingham, WA archive See my Facebook Fanpage 365 Things to do in Bellingham, WA |
